Prevention of malaria can be done in several ways. First and foremost it is important for the population at risk to be aware of the dynamics of malaria transmission in the region they live in and in the available options for prevention. Public awareness campaigns (Information Education Communication (IEC)) and Behavioral Change Campaigns (BCC) are a necessary basis to facilitate and motivate the use of preventive measures.
Awareness building strategies are based on recommendation from previous studies on Knowledge, Attitude and Practices. The campaign takes into account amongst other factors, the ethnicity (language), education level (significant part illiterate) and mobility (messages also via SMS) of the target population.
